Weekendtrip to Tallinn

Hello ladies and gents, are you in christmas mode yet? I have to say that I am starting to get into it although the lack of snow here in Stockholm. I got loads of christmas inspo last weekend when I traveled to Estonia for a weekend getaway. Have you been to Estonia? I had not and I really thought it was just a turn around place for cruise ship tours but I had loads of more things to offer. It was a great spot to head towards for a weekend trip and in this post I am going to share my  initiary.

I did not go by boat over the Baltic sea to reach the destination, instaed I used some SAS Eurobonus points (booked plus class) to get there. The flight was just an hour and went very smooth. I took the local bus to the city center and less than four hours after leaving home I was walking around in downtown Tallinn where I spent Friday night looking around. A lot of hotels were sold out so I recommend booking on time, both Hilton and Radisson, which I like to stay at was fully booked so I got a local place in the old town.

Saturday: Shopping & SPA20161204_144113This December weekend turned out to be freezing cold and on Saturday the city was all grey. I started the day eating breakfast at a coffee chain (where are the Starbucks? I need a city mug to my collection) while I made a plan for the day. I started with some shopping. There were some gallerias with the usual Zara, H&M stores and so on but after three hours and three buy’s I was satisfied so I went out in the snow and wind for a while until I was deep frozen before I had some nice sushi for lunch. It is important to taste the sushi quality in every country.

The rest of the day I spent at a City SPA. It was awesome. First I warmed up with a training session in the gym, then I went to the pool and sauna area. I will make a SPA post so you can read all details about SPAiing in Estonia.

20161204_082518After getting up from the pool area I walked back to the old town for some glögi and watching the christmas market. It was not huge as the ones in Germany but the christmas tree was fantastic and there were lots of local products for sale. Nothing that I wanted or needed but anyway, for the ones loving handcrafted stuff it was heaven.

Sunday: Healthy breakfast and outdoor exploring20161204_105314My plan was to go for a run but it was so extremely cold and I had not that much warm stuff with me so I decided to hide in my warm and cozy Kooples jacket while taking a walk to a brekkie place that I looked up online that I wanted to try. It is called NOP (Neighborhood Organic Place) and well worth a visit for an organic breakfast. It is a bit outside of the city center but still in walking distance and while already in your walking shoes it is a great idea to also visit the park Kadriori which is nearby. There are lots of museums in the park if you like that. I don’t (with a few exceptions) so I skipped that and walked around in the park, took a lot of photos and just enjoyed the sun and exploring.

20161204_110538Then I got to my place. The beach. I read that there are plenty of beaches around Tallinn but when it is -7 degrees and the wind cools down all the way into the bones beaching is not the first thing you think about doing in a new city, but as a beachlover you have to see the beach so I did. There was also a great running path alongside the beach but since I had no running gears on I just watched loads of other runners before I headed back to the hotel for picking up my bags to start the trip where it begun, with a trip to the airport and flight home.

That was my weekend trip story from Tallinn. If you have any questions so shoot!

Lots of love from Pernilla
